“Move on. There’s a whole world of 7 billion people out there. And your time is precious. Choose wisely.”
Her, February 2024
Today was a good day, I’d say!! More so because I was just focused on my own path, what I was doing and what I could do. I also defined a goal (and a couple extras) that would make this day a success – which I’ve realized is so much more important than we give it credit for. Because at the end of the day, it’s only you who feels your feels. So when you decide how to look at something or how to define something, you learn to control your feels. Your ups. Your downs.
I started this morning with a meeting with a partner who had very straightforward advice for someone starting their career:
- Your name & reputation is everything – do good work and make sure everyone knows of it
- Try a variety of things – at the start, in consulting in specific, try everything you can so you have exposure.
The coffee chat wasn’t spectacular by any means, and the partner definitely didn’t take me seriously LOL. But I’ve become used to this, and as a brown female starting her career in consulting, I’m sure people before me had the short end of the stick. Regardless, it did fire something up in my belly somehow. I was all fired up to do whatever work I had to my best. Because that’s all you can do. Last year, this coffee chat would’ve made me really overthink, and waste a couple hours on why it didn’t go amazing. But you really can’t control it can you? If he wasn’t receptive, then what? So? Move on. There’s a whole world of 7 billion people out there. And your time is precious. Choose wisely. Keep moving to keep your balance.
Then I had another mission of getting my kitchen sink unclogged LOL – that was a whole process!! Undraining the standing water, then drano-ing for 3 hours. Thank god, it was done. Then I ate a protein heavy meal (that lasted me essentially the whole day) of tofu, tempeh and egg whites. I had egg whites after so long, and it tasted soooo good!! Then I took a short nap, went to a pilates mat based class where I felt muscles I never knew I had then went to the GYM TODAY! I found a nearby gym in the community centre, they even have a sauna omg!! And it was a whole vibe. Then I had a meeting for a project, and started to build a personal website – which was fun actually and then then capped it off with my night time routine.
I love days like these, where I’m focused on my growth, I have goals and I want to put my fitness first this year. This year is the one I get into the best shape I’ve ever been. This year is the one where I learn to become financially independent and have a healthy stream of income from a side hustle. This year is the one where I abandon the mindset that I need to fill blanks with anyone else but me. I’m all I need. This is the year I realize how lucky I am, and leverage every opportunity I’m given. Growth, gratitude and gains 😉
