Today was a day that genuinely went by in a jiffy. I woke up around 10am, went to meet my cousins who were in town for brunch, watched a movie with them and then returned some items, did my groceries and cooked/showered. What a wholesome day, yet I loved every second of it. Through my journey though, I learnt quite a bit today.
- You need to fight for yourself, and be assertive to get your work done – we were having a very interesting conversation about where the line is for being assertive, a people pleaser or anything else. And my cousins explained how to get to where they are, they couldn’t be laidback or chill. They had to fight, put their foot down when they had to, and get to the finish line any which way possible. I admire their efforts and hard work – and I realized that being passive, and chill isn’t going to help my case. I can already identify areas where I let things go because I don’t want to increase the temperature in the room, but sometimes to get things done, I need to prioritize myself. Because at the end of the day, our purpose on this planet is not to please or impress other people.
- Genuinely rooting for others is the path to success – I was reading a quote the other day and thinking about several people I look up to in my life. No one gets anywhere with a scarcity mindset, or one where you believe that anyone’s goodwill is taking away from anything you have going for you. That’s not the case. The fact of the matter is that there is so much joy in enjoying/partaking in other people’s journeys and successes. Every milestone of theirs is important to them, and in this moment, your job is to just be there for them and make them feel like they are the only person in the world that matters. It’s not about you – but your success can also be their success. And innately, we should all root for our peers because we’re all the different sides of the same coin (ironic, I know). My point being, to get ahead in life, you need to take others with you, and you don’t have to be where everyone else is all the time. Trust your process. Know it will come for you when it’s your time.
- Life is fun when you listen to yourself – The more time I spend with myself, the more cues I hear about what it is that I truly want to do. Okay maybe that’s a bit of a stretch, but even feeling strongly about things I want to do/get done or feeling not so strongly about some things, is a sign that I’m getting closer to getting to know me. And everytime I listen to myself, I unlock another emotion/mindset/memory, and I love it! So moral is listen to yourself more!!
- When the journey is so beautiful, you don’t want the destination to arrive – This is something I heard from the movie today. It’s a mindset I want to adopt – I want to indulge myself so deeply in the process that all I want is for it to keep going. For myself to continue learning, growing and following my curiosities. Keep your eye on the process.
Other than that, I’m ready to tackle the week headon. Any worries will be scheduled for and noted down. Don’t worry, be happy – hakuna matata!!
